I am interested in neuronal population dynamics under epilepsy. In particular, the brain has been proposed to operate at the margin between stable and unstable activity - a state called criticality - because in models criticality maximizes information processing capacities. But criticality also comes with the risk of instability, runaway activity, and epileptic seizures. I am investigating how epileptic brain areas approach criticality and become unstable, and how stability can be reestablished. I build this work on a novel analysis method to assess stability under subsampling that I have already developed, on models of neuronal networks, on data analysis, and on close collaboration with experimentalists.
